QMS UNIX HOST SOFTWARE AND THE IMAGEN SYSTEM The QMS UNIX Host Software can be used to set up print queues to the Imagen printers networked on Ethernet systems. The UNIX Host Software is located on an Anonymous server located at the address "ftp.qms.com" in the directory path "/pub/cts/unix_host_software" and on the QMS BBS (phone # (334)-633-3632) in the UNIX Library. Since there are two basic UNIX systems (SYSV and BSD), installation instructions will be broken up into between the two systems after the common, initial copying of the UNIX Host Software. BSD AND SYSV UNIX 1. Extract the software from the "tar" image you downloaded. EXAMPLE: tar xvf "filename" 2. Change to the QMSoft directory created during the tar command. 3. Run the "Qinstall" script and select which type of UNIX platform you will be installing the software. 4. Run the "addprt" script. At the "Printer Name" prompt, enter a desired queue name. You will be later asked for the host name of the printer. The queue name does not have to be the host name of the printer. Note: "Qinstall" should be run only once. The qef installed by Qinstall will then be available to all subsequent queues, no matter which printer the queue is pointing. BSD Specific Instructions 5. Change to the directory "/usr/spool/queuename". In this directory, edit the file "qfilter" and look for the line "Configuration dependent variables". 6. Change the line "DOC_SUPPORTED=yes" to "DOC_SUPPORTED=no". Exit and save the changes. 7. To customize a queue for specific language selection, tray settings, and the like, create a file called "queuename.pro" in the same directory as the qfilter. This file will contain the Imagen Document Control Language (DCL) commands for the this specific queue. The DCL commands have to be all on one line (the very first line in the file) and are formatted as follows: EXAMPLE: @document(language ultrascript, inputbin upper, forceprerasterization on) Note: To get a full list of DCL commands, call (334)-633-4300 EXT. 2531 and order the ImageServer XP 4.1T (Turbo) Quick Guide, QMS part # 1800046-001. SYSV Specific Instructions 5. Change to the directory "/etc/lp/interfaces". In this directory, edit the file "queuename" and look for the line "Configuration dependent variables". 6. Change the line "DOC_SUPPORTED=yes" to "DOC_SUPPORTED=no". Exit and save the changes. 7. To customize a queue for specific language selection, tray settings, and the like, create a file called "queuename.pro" in the directory "../QMSoft/QDIR/queuename". Document Control Language (DCL) command notes DCL commands must be the very first thing in your file. These commands can be manually entered into into a file for one time file printing, or entered in a queuename.pro file to set up each job being sent to a particular queue. With the QMS UNIX Host Software, "addprt" can be run to create as many queues as desirable, and each queue can have a separate queuename.pro set up the Imagen printer to a desired configuration. The Imagen printer will return to the default configuration after a file using a DCL command is finished printing.
