NOTE: To make this easier, we will refer to the file that you download as system.ps


Loading printer system code to a non-functional printer(PC only)

1. Download the QMS printer system code into any working/temporary directory on your PC hard drive.
2. Turn the printer off.
3. On your PC, get to a DOS prompt.
4. In the temporary directory in which you downloaded the system.ps file
5. Type: copy /b filename lpt1 where filename is the system.ps file. DO NOT PRESS ENTER.
6. Go to the printer.
7. Hold down both the 'Online' and 'Select' buttons and simultaneously turn the printer 'On'.
8. Wait 30 seconds before releasing the 'Online' and 'Select' buttons.
Note: If the printer asks: Format Hard Drive, select 'Next' (right arrow). At 'Next' prompt select 'No' and then press 'Select'.
9. Now, go back to the PC and press the 'Enter' button.
10. Wait 10 minutes.
11. Power-cyle (reboot) the printer. The startup page should reflect the installed version of printer system code

Parallel or Network(via TCP/IP)

Note: The following instructions for upgrading QMS printer system code applies to up and running printers ONLY, with commands being administered via PC (not MAC).

Parallel


1. Download the QMS printer system code into any working/temporary directory on your PC hard drive.
2. Turn the printer on and wait until it is idle.
3. Verify the connection of the parallel cable
4. On PC get to DOS prompt.
5. Type 'copy /b sytem.ps lpt1
6. Press 'Enter' key.
7. Wait 10 minutes.
8. Power-cycle the printer (reboot printer). Startup page should reflect new version of printer system code.

 

Over the network(TCP/IP)

1. Download the QMS printer system code into any working/temporary directory on your PC hard drive.
2. On PC get to DOS prompt.
3. Type 'ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx', where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of your printer.
4. You will be prompted for a username ... press 'Enter' key.
5. You will be prompted for a password ... press 'Enter' key.
6. Type in 'binary' and press 'Enter' key.
7. Type in 'put system.ps' and press 'Enter' key.
8. Wait 10 minutes.
9. Power-cycle the printer (reboot printer). Startup page should reflect new version of printer system code.


Loading printer system code to a functional printer from a UNIX box

1. Download the QMS printer system code.
2. We will assume the name of the file is mc2.ps.
3. From this directory, ftp to the printer by typing 'ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' (without the quotes), where the x's are the actual IP address of the printer.
4. You will be prompted for a User name, press 'Enter'.
5. You will be prompted for a password, press 'Enter'.
6. Type in 'bin' (without the quotes) at the ftp prompt.
7. Type 'put system..ps', (without the quotes), then press enter
8. Wait a full 10 minutes ... do not wait less than that.
9. Reboot the printer and you will have the updated version.

Upgrading QMS Crown printer system code from a Macintosh

You can download the 'QMS Printer Utility' mentioned below at the QMS web site (ftp://ftp.qms.com/pub/crc/out_going/). If you would like to use an Adobe product, you can download their software at http://www.adobe.com/.

I. Download the latest version of the QMS printer system code.

NOTE: Download only the file the support engineer directs you to download.

II. Using 'QMS Printer Utility' or Adobe Downloader, send the code to the printer.

1. 'QMS Printer Utility'

A. Open the 'QMS Printer Utility' application.

B. Select your printer in the 'QMS Printer Utility' window.

C. Choose 'Send Postscript File...' from the 'File' menu.

D. Choose 'Browse' and locate the file you downloaded from our FTP site. Select the name of the file.

E. Choose 'Add'.

F. Choose 'Done'.

G. Choose 'Print'.

2. 'Adobe Downloader'

A. Select the printer you wish to upgrade in the 'Chooser'.

B. Open the 'Adobe Downloader' application.

C. Choose 'Download PostScript File...' from the 'File' menu.

D. Locate the file you downloaded from our FTP site. Select the name of the file.

E. Select 'Open'.



CAUTION

Wait 20 minutes then reboot the printer.  The Start-up page should reflect the new verstion of code
