Instructions for removing controller board from Canon CX/CXD print engines: 1.) Remove vented rear panel above manual feed tray (4 phillips head screws). 2.) Remove (2) upper screws in recessed holes on left side of printer (above test print button). 3.) Go to right side of printer, open upper half of printer and toner cartridge door. There are two plastic tabs extending from top cover to frame of engine both with phillips head screws securing. Remove these two screws and close covers. 4.) After steps 1-3 are complete, the top cover should be loose on the frame of the engine. If product is based on the Canon CX printer, there will be (4) cables securing the top cover to the engine. To remove the cables: a.) Go to the rear of the printer, on right side standing at the rear of the printer, look for two blue and two brown wires which are connected to a white connecter that plugs into the QMS controller board at the top right corner of the printer. Depress the tabs on both the left and right sides and the connector can be released from the controller board. This cable is the 5vdc power connector to the QMS controller board. b.) Still at the rear of the printer in the middle of the engine, locate a gray circular cable. this cable is the RS232/422 I/F cable. It also attaches directly to the controller board. It can be disconnected by pressing the black latches on the connector and the cable will come free. If this is a PS800II printer, there will be a second cable and this is connected to a ribbon cable which comes out from underneth the top cover. Disconnect the circular cable from this ribbon cable. c.) Also at the rear of the printer, on the left side, there will be a gray flat ribbon connector. Again by pushing the black latches outward, the cable will come off. d.) At this point, there is one last cable holding the top cover to the engine. Standing at the rear of the printer, lift the lid slightly (3-4 inches) you will see a 6 pin ribbon cable from the display panel to the DC controller board which is directly behind the fan duct on top of the printer. Please make note of the positioning of this cable and make sure when reconnecting to place back in the orginal position to assure we do not create an additional fuser error. Once this is noted, disconnect the connector from the board on top of the engine. e.) If this is completed properly, you should be holding the top cover in hand with the six pin ribbon cable attached. Place top cover upside down on flat work surface and you should see a metal shield (on older units, you will not have the metal shield but will be looking at the solder side of the QMS controller board), There will be approx. 15 screws around the outside perimeter of the shield securing it to the lid. Remove screws. There will also be a large screw in the center rear of the shield on top of a black spacer. Remove this and the shield should be removed. f.) You will be looking at the solder side of the controller board, remove each of the screws and starlock washers from the five corners of the controller board. g.) Remove board and turn over to expose component H/W. Instructions for removing Personality Mod from Canon SX engines: 1.) Go to left side of printer, (opposite side of the test print button). On the lower gray metal pedestall of the printer, there will be a small gray metal access cover attached to the printer by one (1) phillips head screw. Remove screw and panel. 2.) With the panel removed, the Personality Mod is completely visible. By pulling the Mod at the corners, it should pull straight out of this side port hole. If installed properly it should be very stubburn to remove. 3.) With the mod removed, reseat all socketed EPROM chips on this Mod and reinstall into printer.
