Tech Tips EEProm Error Isolation on PostScript Printers Symptoms: 1.) Erroneous copy counts on status sheet or resetting copy count 2.) Erroneous baud rates displayed, margins shifting after power down situations. 3.) Random status sheets-status sheets ejected for no reason. 4.) Printer stopping in middle of job and ejecting status sheet. 5.) Occasional problems of not getting a status sheet on initial power up. 6.) Any persistent parameter that is altered after a power down situation. Resolution: If any of the error states above have occurred, it may indicate that the EEProm is weakening in the controller. The EEProm is a non-volatile Ram chip and is similar to a battery back-up in the respect that it stores certain information that is to remain in memory while the machine is turned off such as the copy count, margin settings, communication protocols and more. This error can be cor- rected by replacing the EEProm which is a socketed component on the QMS controller board. On the QMS PSJet+, PS800+, PSJet, and PS800 model printers, the EEProm is located at U33 on the controller board. On the PS800II model printers, this chip is located at U39 and on the PS810 will be located at U27. There are two chips which are commonly used and are interchangable between the units. These two components are the EEProm and the ZPRam. The PS810 however, uses only the ZPRam component. These parts can be obtained through an authorized TLC/QMS dealer and the part numbers are as follows: EEProm : 1330114.0000 ZPRam : 1330157
