May 2, 2005 - Mobile, AL – Today KONICA MINOLTA PRINTING SOLUTIONS U.S.A., INC. introduced its most powerful color laser printer yet: the magicolor® 5450. This new model is equipped with more power, greater versatility, and excellent quality for businesses that want high productivity and professional color. With a new state-of-the art Emperon controller, PostScript 3 and PCL 6 languages, and 9600 x 600 dpi-class resolution, this printer is set to take on the diverse office environment. Yet it’s competitively priced, very simple to use, and “desktop friendly” to fit and function easily in any office. This latest printer in KONICA MINOLTA’s magicolor 5400 Series is designed for small business teams, large workgroups, and corporate departments.

Business-class Performance
The magicolor 5450 is one of two new printers to feature KONICA MINOLTA’s next-generation Emperon printing architecture. More than just a controller, Emperon is a combination of hardware and software that, ultimately, results in a positive printing experience for every user. Emperon provides:

The magicolor 5450 uses KONICA MINOLTA’s single-pass laser technology to produce full-color or black & white prints at 27 pages per minute, with a first-page-out time of only 14 seconds, to keep pace with demanding workloads. This color laser workhorse is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet interface for high-speed business networks, and a 667 MHz PowerPC CPU that processes complex files with ease. Also onboard is 256 MB DDR SDRAM, which effectively doubles file data throughput and consumes less energy. The memory can easily be upgraded to a maximum of 1,024 MB for even more processing power and increased productivity. Users can also add an optional internal IDE 40 GB hard disk to activate additional memory, security, and convenience features, such as direct PDF, TIFF, and JPEG printing; electronic collation; and proof-then-print, secured, and stored job functions.

Well-suited to today’s multi-platform business environments, the magicolor 5450 includes PostScipt 3 and PCL 6 languages to support popular business applications, allowing the seamless creation and printing of color documents. Its Emperon high-performance controller provides fast job processing for Windows, Macintosh and Linux users. The magicolor 5450 features mixed network support for NetWare®, TCP/IP, and EtherTalk® to ensure easy integration into almost any configuration.

The magicolor 5450 includes helpful system status and management utilities for both individual users and IT professionals. Individual users can get real-time supply status, and manage and troubleshoot the printer from virtually anywhere, using a web browser and the magicolor 5450’s PageScope™ Web Connection. Network administrators can count on PageScope NetCare web-based tools for remote installation, management, and configuration of both KONICA MINOLTA and non-KONICA MINOLTA printers. And, Enterprise Management System Plug-Ins are available for seamless printing from OpenView, NetView, Unicenter, and Microsoft Management Console.

Photographic Image Quality
Built into the magicolor 5450 are several revolutionary color technologies that produce eye-catching results. The magicolor 5450’s 9600 x 600 dpi-class Photo ART™ contone quality produces photographic detail and smooth color gradients, which significantly enhance printed communications to help businesses gain that important competitive advantage. Dynamic contone screening optimizes output by analyzing page elements and automatically adjusting color screens to provide the best image possible. To ensure color stays consistent on every print, the printer features enhanced Automatic Image Density Control (eAIDC), which automatically calibrates the printer for optimal color quality.
